no clean sound

02/03/2008

i bought an used whammy IV pedal a half yeah ago and it was not used that much as the former user had no use for it after all.. but the problem is that i don't get a clean sound out of the octave pitching as i want.. i want to play "marooned - pink floyd" and it requies a octave pitch pedal. when i det the pedel in toe position on 1 oct it sounds horrible. like i am playing on some guitar whit old strings and a amp that has a spring lose.. the sounds has a little nok when hit a string and it kind of small tremolo sound, it's sound really metalic and is it was in a tunnel.. dosen't sound like a clean note at all.. im not sure if it is the right sound or it's just me.. hope someone can help me

Two things you can do:

1. Recalibrate the pedal
Calibrating the Treadle
In the unlikely event that the treadle pedal does not respond properly, or that the note does not bend or return to the correct pitch, it may need to be recalibrated. The following steps outline the procedure for treadle recalibration:
. Disconnect the power from the Whammy™ pedal.
. Press and hold the footswitch down while reconnecting the power. One of the preset LEDs will blink indicating that you are in set up mode.
. Rock the treadle fully forward and fully back.
. Press the footswitch again to exit the set up mode.
This completes the treadle calibration procedure.

2. Boost your signal going into your Whammy
Octave and pitch shifting effects need a solid signal, otherwise they can't fully track what you're playing. Definitely run a compressor in front of your Whammy. Running an overdrive pedal or a "booster" pedal in front of it would also be helpful.

What are you using to power your Whammy?

Thanks for the reply.

the number two sugestion is the most likly, as the tone is in correct tune, and i have tryed to callibrate whit no succes. i will try your suggestion whit setting distortion infront of the whammy to boost the signal.
i use the original poweradaptor to power my whammy so no problem there. i use high quality cables and there is no interfering whit my pedal. but i will defenetly try our suggestion and will se if it helps (i hope it helps)

Even one of these inexpensive power boosters by EH might work wonders:

i have talked to a specialist and he said that the whammy wasent that great to produce pitch but i didn't quite so searched the net for over an hour and finally got some out of it.. i found a webpage for david gilmour's fans and there was a perfect discription on the pedals used on marooned http://www.gilmourish.com/?page_id=54
he use a the boss cs-2 compresser to get the sound better and a chours pedal. one thing is there. he use whammy pedal II, and i am not sure if it is better then IV but i think it is. but no i will see if the compresser as you said will help..

thanks alot.. have been a big help to get the idea of the pedal..

Yeah - Get a good compressor, as that should help. Compressors are cool on their own, too.

I run the Boss PS-5 Super Shifter with an expression pedal, instead of the actual Whammy. I like it a bit more.

hope so..

each persone got there own tast. I like the whammy for the big choise of effect as i use the detune effect too. and the price are about the same, the whammy are a bit more expensive but i found mine for 40% then normal price so really lucky.

What's the detune effect like on the Whammy?

The detune effect on the Boss PS-5 is sweet, and I use it quite often. :)

the detune effect is relly good.. awsome to get a different sound out of the amp and the vest is that you can control the level of the effect whit the food pedal.
